New Cartoon Highlights Rep. Marc Molinaro’s Lurch to the Right

The So-Called Moderate Has Been Cozying Up to the Far Right in Recent Months, Supporting Extreme Cuts to Programs New Yorkers Rely On

BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK — This week, Empire State Voices published a cartoon in papers across New York’s 19th Congressional District, highlighting Representative Marc Molinaro’s lurch to the right over the past two months. The cartoon is part of a seven-figure paid media effort aimed at holding Rep. Molinaro accountable for siding with extremists over the interests of the working people in his district and educating constituents on the congressman’s record.

“Rep. Molinaro has always had a very questionable idea of what it means to be a moderate, but now he’s really up the creek without a paddle,” said Spencer Noble, NY-19 Regional Organizing Director for Empire State Voices. “He’s hopped on board with Rep. Matt Gaetz and Speaker Mike Johnson’s extreme agenda of slashing the programs New Yorkers rely on. Marc Molinaro needs to bail out now before his votes inflict serious harm on our communities here in the Southern Tier and Hudson Valley.”

Despite branding himself as a “moderate,” Rep. Molinaro has spent the last two months cozying up to some of the most extreme members of his party. In September, the congressman bragged about working alongside Rep. Matt Gaetz and the far-right House Freedom Caucus to draft legislation that would slash funding for nearly every federal program. Then, in October, after first supporting Freedom Caucus co-founder Jim Jordan, Molinaro voted to elect hard-right Rep. Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House.
