New York House Republicans Have Failed Their Constituents on George Santos
Ignoring Their Constituents, GOP Reps. Have Stood By and Done Nothing as New Yorkers Demanded Accountability for Months
NEW YORK — This evening, House Republicans failed to pass a resolution to expel federally indicted Long Island Congressman George Santos. 155 Democratic members voted to expel Santos, joined by only 24 Republicans, falling far short of the two-thirds majority needed to remove him from Congress.
While New York Republican members like Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams have paid lip service to expelling Santos, all three of them voted to shield him from accountability in a similar vote back in May. Since then, all three men have ignored repeated pleas from their constituents to hold Santos accountable. Their failure to whip the necessary votes among their colleagues is proof that this resolution was only brought forward to try and gain political points and distance themselves from their previous votes.

“Today, House Republicans failed the people of New York. This vote wasn’t about political parties or the partisan squabbling we’ve all become numb to. Tonight’s vote was about right and wrong. It was about putting the American people above political partisanship and holding one of their own accountable. House Republicans failed to do that.
Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams have failed their constituents when it comes to George Santos. They voted to shield him from accountability earlier this year and then sat on the sidelines for months as New Yorkers begged them to take action. They get no points for bringing forward a half-hearted resolution after so many months and failing to convince their Republican colleagues to vote for it. They must stand up for New Yorkers and expel George Santos from Congress.”
