Biden Administration Takes Action to Protect Working People’s Retirement Savings From “Junk Fees”

Maria Martinez: “New Yorkers Are Worth Protecting, and We Deserve to Know Where Representatives Like Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams Stand.”

NEW YORK — Today, President Biden delivered remarks on his administration’s newest effort to combat “junk fees,” focusing on the unnecessary costs Americans pay as they save for retirement. The proposed rule would require financial advisors to provide retirement advice that’s in their client's best interest rather than steering clients toward options that maximize their own commissions. These conflicts of interest cost Americans billions of dollars every year, hurting working people and the American economy at large.

Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:
“New Yorkers are some of the most hardworking people in the country and deserve to be able to retire with dignity. Today’s announcement marks a major win for working people across New York, and we hope that our representatives in Congress are taking note. We need our lawmakers to side with us over big banks and special interests. New Yorkers are worth protecting, and we deserve to know where Representatives like Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams stand.”
