On The Inflation Reduction Act Anniversary, Empire State Voices Thanks Rep. Gregory Meeks

QUEENS, NEW YORK — Today, Empire State Voices and constituents commemorated the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by delivering a cake to Rep. Gregory Meeks’ district office, House Democrat for the 5th Congressional district, to thank him for his vote in favor of the IRA. While at his office, NY-04 constituents shared how the legislation has benefited them.

A year ago this week, President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, improving healthcare coverage and lowering prescription drug costs for tens of millions of Americans and kicking off the largest investment in climate change action in history by incentivizing clean energy projects around the country. These investments were paid for by instituting a minimum tax on corporations, cracking down on ultra-wealthy tax cheats, and empowering Medicare to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices.

Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:

“We extend our gratitude to House Democrats for the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. Since its implementation, it has reduced healthcare costs for millions of New Yorkers and created thousands of high-paying jobs across the state. New York House Republicans have continuously tried to repeal key provisions of this critical legislation. They have proven once again they couldn’t care less about the everyday working New Yorkers they represent, but instead are working endlessly to prioritize tax breaks for their wealthy corporate donors.”
