State of The District: What Broome County Residents REALLY Think About the State of the Union

Empire State Voices Got the Inside Scoop at Last Night’s State of the Union Watch Party in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK — Last night, local residents joined Empire State Voices and Citizen Action of New York for a State of the Union watch party in Binghamton. Between snacks, drinks, and a rowdy game of State of the Union Bingo, attendees discussed President Biden’s speech, the current “State of the District,” and the legislative priorities they want to see their representative in Congress fight for over the coming year.

During his speech, the President highlighted some of the major accomplishments of his first term, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act, all of which have brought significant investment and high-paying jobs to New York. The biggest takeaway of the night, however, was the stark difference between the priorities of the Biden Administration and those of NY-19 Representative Marc Molinaro.

“I thought President Biden’s speech was a strong blend of compassion, courage, and conviction in addressing the many issues that challenge human rights and democracy,” said Carol Golembeski, a resident of Binghamton. His years in public service and foreign affairs give him the experience to negotiate, and I believe he listens to the people. I appreciated his comments on health, medical issues, pharmaceutical costs, Social Security, climate, and our kids."

“Tonight we heard President Biden speak on his accomplishments and lay out his plan for even further action to improve the lives of working families across the country,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “I think this speech highlighted the significant gap between the two opposing visions in Washington right now. While Congressman Molinaro pushes political fights and works to protect wealthy tax cheats, the Biden administration is working to reduce costs for working people and prioritize American families over big corporations.”
