Rep. Mike Lawler Sells Out Medicaid!

House Republicans Pass Budget Resolution By a Single Vote, Throwing Medicaid into Peril

NEW YORK — Last night, Representative Mike Lawler joined his Republican colleagues in voting for the House GOP budget plan. The resolution, which passed by a single vote, authorizes Republicans to make $2 trillion in funding cuts to critical programs, including a potential $880 billion cut to Medicaid, while providing $4.5 trillion to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, overwhelmingly benefitting the richest Americans.

Nearly 190,000 New Yorkers in the 17th Congressional District rely on either Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), both of which are in peril because of Rep. Lawler’s vote.

“Representative Mike Lawler was in the U.S. Capitol last night, but who knows where his backbone was,’” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices.“Rather than stand up for his constituents and defend Medicaid, SNAP, and the countless other life-saving programs that New Yorkers rely on, Rep. Lawler buckled under pressure. He gave in to the Trump and DOGE agenda, putting hundreds of thousands of his own constituents in harm’s way.”
