House Republicans Have Medicaid and SNAP in Their Crosshairs
Following Weeks of Chaos Caused by DOGE Cuts, the House of Representatives is Gearing Up for Even More!
NEW YORK — Yesterday, the Republican-led House Rules Committee voted to advance the GOP budget resolution, sending it to a vote on the House floor as early as tonight. If passed, the resolution would authorize Republicans to make more than $1.5 trillion in program cuts, while providing $4.5 trillion to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, mostly benefitting the richest Americans.
“As if the chaos caused by President Trump and DOGE this past month wasn’t enough, House Republicans have stepped up to say ‘hold my beer,’” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “While shouting about ‘fiscal responsibility’ and ‘government efficiency,’ House Republicans are getting ready to extend trillions of dollars in tax cuts for the rich while gutting the vital programs that regular New Yorkers depend on, like Medicaid and SNAP. If Rep. Mike Lawler truly represents his constituents, he’ll vote against this insane handout to the ultra-rich.”
