51 Years After Roe: New York House Republicans Make Their Anti-Choice Position Clear

Congressmen D’Esposito, Molinaro, and Williams Have All Previewed Support for National Anti-Abortion Legislation

NEW YORK — Today is the 51st anniversary of the now-overturned Roe v. Wade decision, which guaranteed all Americans the constitutional right to access abortion care.

In the last year, New York Congressmen Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams all voted in favor of anti-choice legislation seeking to limit the options available to pregnant people and stigmatize abortion healthcare. All three are also staunch supporters of hard-right Speaker Mike Johnson, who has made fighting against abortion access and advocating for a nationwide ban a central pillar of his political career.

Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:
“Abortion rights are economic rights. Taking away the choice to terminate an unwanted or unsafe pregnancy removes a person’s agency over one of the biggest economic decisions they’ll make in their lifetime. 51 years ago today, the Supreme Court promised all Americans that they would have the right to control their own bodies and their own economic futures. Now, a reactionary court and a Republican-led House is trying to revoke that promise. The people of New York need to know that their representatives in Congress are fighting to protect their rights to bodily autonomy and self-determination. Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams have failed to do so.”
