Rep. D’Esposito Receives A Valentine’s Day Message from Brokenhearted Constituents

Former Educators and Concerned Residents are Demanding Rep. D’Esposito Stop Voting to Cut Funding for K-12 Schools

GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK — Today, Empire State Voices joined former educators and concerned Long Island residents to deliver a Valentine’s Day message to Congressman Anthony D’Esposito. The constituents presented the Congressman’s staff with a handmade card, expressing their heartbreak over Rep. D’Esposito’s recent votes to cut funding for K-12 education.

“I can’t think of a single good reason that someone would vote to cut funding for K-12 education,” said Lorraine Attias, a retired teacher and resident of East Meadow, NY.“Education is how we give our children opportunities to succeed, and Anthony D’Esposito has voted to take these opportunities away from the children of Long Island. I sincerely hope our message today prompts him to reconsider his anti-education stance because the children of Long Island deserve better.”

Congressman D’Esposito claims to care a great deal about ensuring access to quality education, with his website proudly declaring that “[a] high-quality education is the best way to guarantee our children’s success.” Empire State Voices agrees. Since taking office, however, his record tells a much different story. In just his first year, Rep. D’Esposito voted for two bills (H.R. 2811, H.R. 5525) that would have significantly cut funding for K-12 education and reduced access to high-quality education for millions of students across New York.

“I want my granddaughter to have every opportunity to succeed in life, whatever path she chooses to follow,” said Claire Leon, a resident of Valley Stream, NY. “But Congressman D’Esposito has voted to take funding away from our schools and make it harder for boys and girls like her. He tells us that he believes in providing our children with high-quality education but goes to Washington and votes to cut the very funding that would provide it. Representative D’Esposito should be ashamed of his record, and I urge him to change course.”
