We Deserve Answers: Where Do New York House Republicans Really Stand on Medicare?

Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams Have All Voted to Slash Funding for Key Agencies and Restrict Access for Millions of New Yorkers

NEW YORK — Today is the final day of Medicare Open Enrollment, with nearly 3.8 million New Yorkers locking in their coverage for 2024. Medicare benefits are a critical lifeline for many New York families, with more than 15% of beneficiaries falling below the federal poverty line.

Despite all claiming to support access to affordable healthcare, Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams have repeatedly voted to slash the funding of key agencies responsible for administering Social Security and Medicare. Cuts like these would increase wait times and restrict access to benefits for millions of New York seniors and people with disabilities.

New Yorkers deserve answers to some important questions:

  1. Why do New York House Republicans keep voting to cut funding for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and how do those cuts help New York seniors?

  2. Cuts to CMS funding would increase wait times and make it harder for seniors and people with disabilities to access their benefits. Will Reps. D’Esposito, Molinaro, and Williams commit to voting against any future bills that reduce access to Medicare?

  3. This past weekend, Reps. D’Esposito, Molinaro, and Williams all attended a high-dollar Manhattan fundraiser with Speaker Johnson. Do they agree with Johnson’s past statements that Medicare poses an “existential threat” to the American way of life?

Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:
"Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams all looked their constituents in the eye and claimed to support Medicare, only to turn around and vote to undermine the program at every chance they get. New Yorkers deserve to know where their representatives really stand on Medicare, and we hope that these three congressmen will take the opportunity today to provide their constituents with some answers.”
