ICYMI: IRS Begins Crackdown on Wealthy Tax Dodgers Despite House Republicans’ Best Efforts

New York Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams All Voted in Favor of Protecting These Ultra-Wealthy and Corporate Tax Cheats

NEW YORK — The IRS recently announced that it is beginning a crackdown on a number of wealthy tax cheats, pursuing 1,600 millionaires and 75 large corporations that have avoided paying hundreds of millions of dollars. This renewed effort is thanks to last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, which provided the agency with $80 billion to hire additional staff and develop the technology needed to go after high-dollar tax dodgers.

In their very first legislative act after retaking the House of Representatives this year, Republicans attempted to strip the IRS of this critical funding. When that failed, they tried again in May with the Default on America Act and are yet again proposing cuts in this month’s appropriations fight. New York Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams all voted in favor of protecting these ultra-wealthy and corporate tax cheats.

“I’m glad this push to make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share is finally happening. When our Representatives go to Washington, we expect them to fight to make life better for us and our families,” said Antonio, a small gym owner from Saugerties, NY. “Instead, Marc Molinaro’s very first act as a Congressman was to help out the richest Americans, hanging the rest of us out to dry. Rep. Molinaro should focus on helping small businesses and working families like mine, not those at the very top.”
