A Not So ‘Clean’ CR: House Republicans Give President Trump & Elon Musk’s DOGE a Blank Check to Continue the Chaos
New York Reps. Mike Lawler, Nick LaLota, Andrew Garbarino, and Nicole Malliotakis All Voted for the Resolution
NEW YORK — House Republicans just passed a continuing resolution to extend government funding through September 30th, the end of the current fiscal year. While Republicans have tried branding the bill as a ‘clean’ extension of existing funding levels, the resolution cuts $13 billion in funding for nondefense programs and services.
The legislation also included a provision that surrendered Congress’ ability to block any tariffs enacted by the Trump Administration. This move comes as President Trump doubles down on his destructive trade war with Canada.
“Representatives Mike Lawler, Nick LaLota, and the rest of the New York Republican delegation have shown us time and time again that they won’t do anything to make life more affordable for working New Yorkers,’” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “Today’s continuing resolution does absolutely nothing to address the cost of living crisis being felt across New York, and instead gives the Trump Administration a blank check to continue dismantling the critical programs and services that millions of New York families rely on. With Republicans on the verge of gutting Medicare or Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, it’s time for our New York Representatives to stand up and actually fight for the people they’re supposed to represent.”
