STATEMENT: House Finally Passes Government Funding Bill After Months of Republican Infighting

A Second Round of Funding Bills Will Need to Pass Before March 22nd Deadline

NEW YORK — Today, after months of Republican infighting over proposed spending cuts, the House of Representatives was finally able to pass the first package of government funding bills for the 2024 fiscal year, which began last October. The House will now turn its attention to a second set of funding bills, which must be passed by March 22nd to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:

“The people of New York need to know that their representatives in Congress are fighting for them and have their best interests at heart. Instead, over the past six months, we’ve seen the Republican-controlled House devolve into chaos and infighting as they’ve argued over which of the vital programs that New York families rely on they’d most like to cut. As the House takes up this next set of bills, we implore Representatives Anthony D’Esposito, Marc Molinaro, and Brandon Williams to fight for the working families in their district and protect the programs that so many of us rely on to make ends meet.”
