Where is Congressman Brandon Williams?

The Post-Standard: Rep. Brandon Williams “Absent” on Issues Impacting Central New York Families

CENTRAL NEW YORK — Earlier today, the Post-Standard released blockbuster investigative reporting exposing Brandon Williams as an absentee Congressman who “has not passed any legislation of consequence for his district.”

Through examining “public appearances, legislation, travel, social media statements and House committee records,” the Post-Standard found that Williams has focused more on national politics and international issues than on delivering results for working families in his district. The article highlights anecdotes from local elected leaders within his own party who argue that the Congressman “has been mostly absent when it comes to addressing local issues.”

“Halfway into his term, working families throughout Central New York and the Mohawk Valley are already asking themselves, ‘Where’s my Congressman? Where’s Brandon Williams?’” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director for Empire State Voices. “We wish that Congressman Williams would stop spending all of his time focused on distractions and instead focus on doing the job for working families that he was elected to do.”

Representative Williams has shown a penchant for supporting legislation that prioritizes the wealthiest Americans over working people and families. The Congressman, who represents the city with the second highest child poverty rate in the nation, has voted for billions in tax breaks for large oil and gas companies while voting to cut housing, energy, and food assistance programs for low-income families. He has voted to cut funding for programs that provide New Yorkers with access to clean drinking water and for cuts to affordable healthcare centers and K-12 education.
