Following a Week of Chaos and Confusion, Trump Continues to Put Billionaires Ahead of Working New Yorkers

While President Trump Works to Give the Wealthy Even More Tax Breaks, His Tariffs Will Result in Higher Prices on Everyday Purchases for New Yorkers

NEW YORK — Today, President Trump signed an executive order putting in place a slew of tariffs on imported goods entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, and China—our three largest trading partners. This policy, which comes after a week of confusion and chaos, is expected to raise prices on everything from gas, groceries, and electricity to clothing, electronics, and prescription drugs as companies pass the cost of tariffs on to New York consumers.

“This week, President Trump has told us loud and clear who he plans to fight for over the course of his second term, and it isn’t you, me—or even his own voters,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “Trump promised to give tax cuts to his corporate donors and billionaire buddies, and now he’s making all of us foot the bill. First, he tried to cut funding to countless programs and services that working New Yorkers depend on every single day. Now, President Trump is forcing working New Yorkers to pay higher prices on nearly everything they buy so that he and his rich friends can get away with paying even less.”
