Food, Housing, Energy, and Heating Assistance in Peril Following Trump’s Cuts to All Federal Grants
“This Move by President Trump Directly Endangers the Health and Wellbeing of Millions of New Yorkers.” -Maria Martinez
NEW YORK — Yesterday, President Trump announced that he would be cutting all federal grants and loans beginning at 5 pm today, Tuesday, January 28th. These cuts would impact countless programs and services across New York that depend on federal funding, including school lunch programs, food and housing assistance programs, home heating and energy assistance, and so much more.
“This move by President Trump directly endangers the health and well-being of millions of New Yorkers,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “Whether it’s educational opportunities for our children, food and housing programs, or critical energy and heating assistance during these cold winter months, President Trump has just put all of that in jeopardy with the stroke of a pen. This stunt won’t make the government more efficient—it will just inflict more suffering on poor and middle-class families across New York.”
