Republicans Pledge to Lower Taxes for the Ultra-Rich
Extending the Republican Tax Scam Would be a Massive Giveaway to Billionaires and Corporations
NEW YORK — Last night, Republicans gathered in Milwaukee to promote their economic agenda. At a time when four in five Americans support raising taxes on the rich and big corporations, Republicans continue to push for massive giveaways to the ultra-wealthy. Empire State Voices calls on Congressmen Marc Molinaro, Anthony D’Esposito, and Brandon Williams to put their constituents first and allow the Republican Tax Scam to expire.
Republican legislators have already expressed their plans to extend a slew of provisions from their 2017 tax law that are set to expire late next year. While they’ve tried to frame these cuts as an effort to help lower and middle-class Americans, the vast majority of benefits have gone to the ultra-wealthy. Extending these cuts would be a massive gift to billionaires and corporations while doing almost nothing to lessen the burden on working families.
Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:
“Republicans in Congress have made their governing agenda crystal clear. They plan to do whatever they can to lower taxes for the ultra-rich, the rest of us be damned.
They claim they’re fighting for average Americans, but their policies speak louder than they do. The 2017 Republican Tax Scam funneled nearly all of its benefits to those at the very top while giving working families table scraps. Making these measures permanent would be just another step in their plan to make the rich richer while kicking the rest of us to the curb. Congressmen Marc Molinaro, Anthony D’Esposito, and Brandon Williams should put their constituents first and allow the Republican Tax Scam to expire.”
