House Republicans Trash Bipartisan Government Funding Bill
At Trump’s Demand, House Republicans Threaten Once Again to Plunge the U.S. into a Harmful Government Shutdown
NEW YORK — Following demands by President-elect Donald Trump on his social media site, Truth Social, Republicans in the House of Representatives have scrapped their own bipartisan plan to fund the federal government through March of next year. This latest move, which echoes previous struggles by House Republicans, threatens once again to plunge the nation into a harmful government shutdown that would hurt millions of working Americans.
“For the past two years, this Republican majority has struggled and scrambled time after time to do even the bare minimum of keeping the federal government open and functioning,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, “Now, New York House Republicans are once again threatening to throw their own constituents into chaos at the whims of President-elect Donald Trump. The incoming Trump Administration and its lackeys in the House of Representatives are holding the American people hostage in an effort to raise the debt ceiling and allow for even more tax cuts for billionaires and massive corporations. This insanity needs to stop!”
