Long Islanders Need Results, Rep. D’Esposito and House Republicans Are Delivering Chaos and In-Fighting
House Republicans Are Stuck Fighting Amongst Themselves Instead of Lowering Costs for Long Island Families
NEW YORK — Today marks three weeks since House Republicans ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy, bringing the legislative body to a halt. The majority party has spent the intervening weeks fighting amongst themselves but has failed to elect a new leader from their ranks.
The standstill in Congress continues as the November 17th deadline to fund the government rapidly draws near. House Republicans tried and failed to slash nearly every government program by 30 percent ahead of the previous September 30th deadline before kicking the can down the road for another six weeks.
Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, released the following statement:
“Over the past three weeks, House Republicans have devolved into chaos, fighting amongst themselves instead of working to address the issues their constituents face. Rather than working to find a bipartisan path forward, Rep. D’Esposito has taken a series of votes that do nothing to move us toward a solution. Anthony D’Esposito needs to stop with the pointless partisanship and work to elect a Speaker who will actually address the needs of his constituents in NY-04, from lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs to addressing inflation and the ongoing housing crisis.”
