Unable to Pass Government Funding, House Republicans are Flailing

“New Yorkers Deserve Better Than This.”  - Maria Martinez

NEW YORK — Yesterday, House Republicans failed to pass a Continuing Resolution to extend government funding, which is set to expire on September 30th. This comes after nearly a year of attempts by the Republican majority to pass an array of government funding bills that would cut non-defense funding by 22%.

“Working families across New York are doing everything in their power to make ends meet and pay their bills, but House Republicans can’t get it together long enough to fund the government,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, “Instead, they’re bickering with one another and fighting to cut the programs that families across our state rely on. Over the past few months, we’ve seen them try to defund the Social Security Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, propose massive cuts to K-12 education, and suggest stripping away $30 billion in future SNAP benefits from children and families. New Yorkers deserve better than this.”
