As Price-Gouging Causes the Cost of Groceries to Climb, New Yorkers Demand a Solution

“Something is Fundamentally Broken.”  - Maria Martinez

NEW YORK — Despite the continued signs that the inflation is cooling, prices remain high, and New Yorkers across the state are struggling to keep up with the cost of groceries. Unchecked corporate greed has led to price gouging on even basic necessities, leaving millions of New Yorkers experiencing food insecurity while corporate profits skyrocket.

“New Yorkers work incredibly hard to provide for their families,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices, “but when 85% of those families say that food costs are rising faster than their incomes and 43% are experiencing signs of food insecurity, something is fundamentally broken. We need our leaders to take direct action to address this cycle of price gouging and corporate greed that’s leaving New York families going hungry.”
