Complaint Filed Against Rep. Molinaro for Illegal Use of Taxpayer Funds

Congressman Molinaro Misused Taxpayer Money for Campaign Purposes, an Endicott Resident Alleges

ENDICOTT, NEW YORK — An Endicott resident has filed an official complaint against Congressman Marc Molinaro with the House Communications Standards Commission following the broadcast of a radio ad last month. The complaint alleges that Rep. Molinaro illegally used taxpayer money for campaign purposes, citing parallels between the ad and several of the congressman’s campaign videos.

Under federal law, a member of Congress cannot use federal funds for political or campaign-related communications. Nevertheless, the radio spot was broadcast in the midst of primary season, just twelve days before New Yorkers went to the polls. The ad echoes the same themes and talking points used in Rep. Molinaro’s official campaign materials, raising serious ethical and legal concerns around his use of taxpayer money.

“Congressman Molinaro is free to campaign all he wants, but he has to do that on his own dime,” said Phyllis Amenda, a resident of Endicott, NY. “I submitted this complaint because the people of Upstate New York shouldn’t be footing the bill for Rep. Molinaro’s reelection effort. Regardless of political party, I think we can all agree that New Yorkers work far too hard to have our tax dollars misused like this. Rep. Molinaro’s ad appears to be a blatant attempt to use federal funds to bolster his reelection campaign in the heart of election season. I think this is inappropriate, illegal, and warrants a thorough investigation by the bipartisan Communications Standards Commission.”
