ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: As Molinaro Tries to Pitch His Record, Frustration Brews Over ‘Corporate First’ Agenda
Empire State Voices Welcomed Rep. Molinaro to Town with a Mobile Billboard Demanding He Put New York Families Ahead of Corporate Interests
SAUGERTIES, NEW YORK — Today, Empire State Voices unveiled a mobile billboard truck outside Congressman Marc Molinaro’s breakfast with the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce in Saugerties. While Rep. Molinaro attempted to pitch his record to small business leaders over coffee and bagels, the truck parked outside reminded attendees of the freshman Representative’s relentless support for large corporate tax breaks during his short tenure in Congress.
The billboard, which calls on Rep. Molinaro to prioritize the interests of New York families, is part of a seven-figure paid media effort aimed at holding Rep. Molinaro accountable for voting against the interests of working people.
“Congressman Molinaro can try to spin as much as he wants, but at the end of the day, his record couldn’t be more clear,” said Maria Martinez, Executive Director of Empire State Voices. “Rep. Molinaro has voted to give billions in tax breaks to big corporations, made it easier for them to cheat on the taxes they do have to pay, and has done precious little for the people he’s actually supposed to represent. It’s time for the Congressman to stop prioritizing huge corporations and start fighting for the small businesses and working families of Upstate New York.”
As one of his first acts in Congress, Rep. Molinaro voted to give a $6 billion tax break to large oil and gas companies. He has since doubled down on that effort with a second attempt and is currently co-sponsoring a bill that would extend another $34 billion in tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. While the bill numbers and names may vary, one thing has remained the same: a disproportionate amount of savings directed to those at the very top.
Rep. Molinaro has also repeatedly voted to strip the IRS of the funding needed to audit billionaires and large corporations, making it easier for the ultra-wealthy to cheat on their taxes. The Congressional Budget Office has found that cuts to the IRS could actually increase the deficit—meanwhile, every dollar spent on auditing the ultra-rich returns more than $12 in revenue.
